I've totally forgotten to touch my Twitter!

I totally have forgotten to update my Twitter since doing homework the other night. Not that I stopped doing homework for my online BS in liberal studies for B.U. (Yes, that's a BS in BS). But I forgot about Twitter altogether. With so many web 2.0 sites springing up and fighting for our attention, it will be interesting to see which will be the cream to rise to the top. Twitter is just guilty, addictive fun. It doesn't actually do anything for me like Blinklist or Helipad. It doesn't organize me or make life easier. It's kind of like another MySpace -- so far.

Everything you could ever want to know about me...

...Is right here in my tag cloud. It's better than a fingerprint!

My cat feels the same way, little guy

Animals love to cuddle with Apple products. Cats have been known to cuddle the Airport Base station or a warm laptop. Even this squirrel has the right idea:

Oh no, Twitter

Shall I fall for Twitter like everyone else in the free web 2.0 world? I'm such a web 2.0 whore I think I'll have to try it out. I don't want a million freakin' updates on what people are eating for dinner. Maybe it's something we could use at the Suite101.com music group when a writer posts a new article to let one another know to check it out. We're sort of geeks like that. I know Danny Brown would do that with me! Maybe it's something I could use while on or off the air for listeners to check out. I think I'll make a Twitter page just for that reason, so I can put it on the new Peak website.

Here's my Twitter! Check me out here.

My Blinklist Tag Cloud.

Oh, Blinklist, how I've grown so attached to you and staring at the loveliness of my very own tag cloud. Does an online existence get any better? I love that I can blink something while surfing at work and then find it again when I get home by checking my blinklist. I used to just e-mail myself URLs I found while surfing away from my Mac, which was a total pain in the ass. Now, I blink and it's easy. Nerd water runs in my veins...

After Farting Around With Skype and Audacity for a While...

I gave up. Does anyone know how to record a phone call to Skype from a landline into Audacity? That's what I was trying to do today in hopes of making a podcast out of my interview with Macy Gray. I just don't know how to set the caller's voice so I can get good levels. I can barely hear the caller's voice! But I can hear it. I tested it out today by calling my Skype In number with my cell.

Anyway, I wrote about Macy Gray's new album today for Suite101.com, where I'm the pop music feature writer. Her speaking voice is just as characteristic as her singing voice, so I'm very sad that I couldn't record her over Skype to make a podcast today.

Anyway, Read my article here.

Be Careful What You Do in Your Online Existence!

I think the CollegeHumor.com hot girl bracket is a fun thing and it shouldn't make a girl look bad to a job interviewer. Hey -- college is expensive. Why not? And why should a photo in a bikini hurt a career as an engineer? I think women should be allowed to be both pretty and intelligent at the same time -- not one or the other.

Can photos really "plague" you?

I Exist Online

I realized today how much of my live revolves around the Internet. I work from home and attend college online at Boston University -- even though I live and work in Phoenix, Arizona. I'm a freelance writer and I write for websites, so I'm constantly online for work. While I work, I'm listening to the radio online or music on some kind of online music site. I use iTunes to avoid television while still being able to keep up on favorite shows. I keep in touch with friends and family via Skype, IM, and e-mail. Sometimes I feel like I have to not touch my laptop for the entire weekend, but I still need to use a computer while on the air at 98-7 The Peak. I do two weekend air shifts and spend time during the week writing content for the station's website, 987thepeak.com. I also enjoy blogging, as you can see.

So I'm a huge geek and I've lately gotten into finding cool Web 2.0 sites that are fun or can make life easier for either work or school. I'm trying to use sites like Ning.com or MySpace.com to promote my station's website or writing I do on Suite101.com. I've also been looking for note-taking and collaboration sites for school.

All this aside, the point of this blog is obviously self-expression. It's sort of my study of how the Internet is constantly changing and enriching my life. I hope that others come across it and see how it has also simplified my life. I don't spend time commuting to work or school which gives me extra time for productivity and creativity -- two very important things to me. I can also make a tank of gas last for two weeks or longer because I don't need to drive much, so having an online existence is good for the environment. (In all honesty, my boyfriend does do his share of driving me around like the good, chivalrous boyfriend he is). I live in Phoenix where the air is a disgusting brown cloud and everyone drives alone from place to place. Traffic and dirty air are huge problems here that I get a free pass from because of my online existence. If more people here could do the same, it would help our environment so much!

A friend of mine asked the other day how I like taking my online classes at Boston University and I said I love it. It's not for everyone, but if you're a self-started and can relate to people online then it's a great experience. I feel like I get to know my classmates better and I can move at my own pace. I realized how many people are missing out on taking online classes because they're intimidated by the medium. Don't be! It can make a huge difference in your life.
